As District Attorney, Michael has worked closely with law enforcement at every level to do justice. He has led innovative approaches that balance accountability and consequences with programs designed to address underlying needs, including mental health and substance abuse. As a result of this work, Michael has been endorsed by District Attorneys and elected Sheriffs from more than two-thirds of Colorado's counties. As Attorney General, Michael will strengthen law enforcement while expanding innovative prevention programs that address root causes.
Michael’s Track Record
Created Mental Health Diversion Program to reduce repeat offenses through treatment and early intervention. Received the National Association of Counties Award for this program
Created a Human Trafficking Unit, which has been recognized with awards
Launched Colorado's first Domestic Violence Acute Response Team
Expanded Juvenile Diversion Program with a 92% success rate
Launched Drug Diversion Program and Driver Diversion Program
Collaborated with District Attorneys statewide on prosecuting homicides and violent crimes in their jurisdictions
Lead statewide law enforcement training improvements as DA
