“One candidate runs circles around the field”

BOULDER, COLO. — Fri., June 12, 2026 — Today, Michael Dougherty's campaign for Attorney General released a new television advertisement highlighting his record as a prosecutor, his commitment to justice, and the experience he brings to the race to serve as Colorado's next Attorney General.

The ad features Dougherty literally running circles around the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center, the complex that houses the Colorado Attorney General's Office and the state's appellate courts, underscoring the ad's central message: when it comes to legal experience, courtroom credentials, and readiness to serve as Attorney General, Michael Dougherty runs circles around the field.

"Colorado Democrats are looking for an Attorney General who has spent a career fighting for justice, protecting public safety, and standing up for the rule of law," Dougherty said. "That's the work I've done throughout my career, and it's the work I'll continue as Attorney General."

As Boulder County District Attorney, Dougherty has led the prosecution of some of the most significant cases in Colorado, including the King Soopers mass shooting, the Pearl Street firebombing attack, and the Marshall Fire investigation. Prior to serving as District Attorney, Dougherty served in the Colorado Attorney General's Office and the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, where he rose to become Deputy Chief of the Sex Crimes Unit, overseeing the prosecution of some of New York City's most serious cases.

The ad also highlights Dougherty's commitment to social, economic, environmental, and racial justice, as well as his statewide Know Your Rights trainings that help Coloradans understand and defend their constitutional rights.

At a time when attorneys general across the country are on the front lines challenging unlawful actions by the Trump Administration, Dougherty said Colorado needs a chief legal officer with a proven record of winning difficult legal fights and standing up for the rule of law.

"Donald Trump has shown he will continue to test the limits of the law and our Constitution," Dougherty said. "Colorado needs an Attorney General who knows how to build cases, win in court, and protect our communities. I have spent my career taking on difficult cases and powerful interests, and I will be ready on day one to fight for Colorado and win."

The advertisement also contrasts Dougherty's record with what the campaign describes as a pattern of exaggerations by one of his opponents regarding her legal experience and accomplishments.

"Voters deserve facts, not exaggerations," Dougherty said. "This campaign is about who is best prepared to serve as Colorado's chief legal officer on day one. My record speaks for itself."

The television advertisement will air on Denver broadcast stations and statewide digital platforms.
