Momentum Builds for Michael Dougherty as Denver Post, Durango Herald, District Attorney Dan Rubinstein and Senator Rhonda Fields Back Campaign for Attorney General

Broad coalition of newspaper editorial boards, law enforcement leaders and respected community voices rally behind Dougherty in final days before primary

BOULDER, COLO. — Weds., June 10, 2026 — Momentum continues to build for Michael Dougherty's campaign for Colorado Attorney General as Colorado voters head toward the Democratic primary, with endorsements from two major Colorado newspapers, Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein, and former State Senator and Arapahoe County Commissioner Rhonda Fields.

The Denver Post Editorial Board endorsed Dougherty this week, calling him the strongest candidate in the race and praising his leadership through some of Colorado's most difficult and heartbreaking moments.

"The community in Boulder County has been in good hands through strife and trauma," the editorial board wrote. "Now we hope voters will trust Dougherty with the state attorney general's office."

The Denver Post highlighted Dougherty's leadership during the King Soopers mass shooting prosecution, the Marshall Fire investigation, and the Pearl Street terror attack, concluding that he would be an Attorney General who would be actively engaged in addressing the issues that matter most to Coloradans.

"We believe Dougherty will be an independent candidate who stands up for Coloradans when it matters most," the editorial board wrote.

The endorsement follows support from The Durango Herald, whose editorial board praised Dougherty's extensive legal experience and record of public service, writing that he is "the most qualified candidate" to serve as Colorado's next Attorney General.

In recent days, Dougherty has also earned endorsements from respected leaders in public safety and the community.

Mesa County District Attorney Dan Rubinstein, a fellow prosecutor, announced his support for Dougherty, citing his integrity, experience, and commitment to justice.

Former State Senator and Arapahoe County Commissioner Rhonda Fields, one of Colorado's most respected advocates for crime victims and public safety, also endorsed Dougherty, praising his commitment to protecting communities and standing up for victims.

"These endorsements reflect something larger happening across Colorado," Dougherty said. "People from different communities, backgrounds, and perspectives are coming together because they want an Attorney General with the experience to lead on day one, the independence to stand up for what's right, and the integrity to put the interests of Coloradans first."

Throughout the campaign, Dougherty has built support from leaders across Colorado who recognize the critical role the Attorney General will play in protecting consumers, defending civil rights, combating corporate misconduct, addressing environmental harms, supporting public safety, and standing up to federal overreach.

"At a time when Colorado faces unprecedented legal and constitutional challenges, voters are looking for proven leadership," Dougherty said. "I'm grateful for the trust these respected voices have placed in our campaign, and I'm ready to get to work fighting for the people of Colorado."

The Colorado Democratic Primary Election will be held on June 30.
